What are photochromic lenses?

Photochromic lenses are clear indoors and darken when exposed to sunlight. They also have an anti-scratch and anti-reflective coating. The tint intensity of the lens depends on the intensity of UV radiation. Maximum tint intensity is achieved in cold and snowy conditions when UV radiation is reflected from the snow. Standard photochromic lenses do not darken in the car.
The lenses that darken in the car are called Xtractive.
